The brain is like the muscles of the body. We have to either use it, or we lose it. According to science, the brain could start declining typically before the age of 40, unless proper brain health measures are taken.

The most important factors for the health of the brain are:

Brain exercises
Proper diet
Physical exercises
Reduce stress, anxiety and depression
Good sleep
Do not smoke

One of the easiest and most effortless ways to maintain a healthy brain, is brainwave meditation. It provides the brain with the necessary stimulations to increase its ability to enter high performance states. It is also one of the easiest and most effective ways to relieve stress and promote better sleep.

Along with doing brainwave meditation, you could also follow these brain health tips:

Brain exercises

Exercising the brain is doing something that makes you think. It will be a good exercise for you if you try for a day (and gradually increase the time) to not use calculators and reduce watching TV to a minimum.

You can also do brain games, read books, start a new hobby, study a new language. Any new activity is a wonderful challenge for the brain and is the necessary exercise to keep the brain healthy and improve its capacity.

Proper diet

The brain, like our whole body, needs its nutrients to function properly. Plenty of water, a well-balanced, low cholesterol and low saturated diet creates excellent conditions for a healthy brain. Good brain food is proteins and unsaturated fat, like fish, for example. Alcohol should be reduced as much as possible.

Physical exercises

Regular physical exercises help keep depression away. They reduce the cardiovascular risk factors which helps you think freely. Some exercises stimulate the release of serotonin, dopamine, and noradrenaline (like taking Prozac).

Reduce stress, anxiety and depression

There is an increasing evidence that stress damages the brain. Studies show that the stress hormones can actually kill nerve cells in animals and they are thought to do the same in humans. Depression affects memory and slows the brain metabolism.

Good sleep

During deep sleep, the brain repairs itself. During the rapid eye movement (REM) sleep, the brain consolidates information learned during the previous day. Therefore, poor sleep leads to memory, concentration and mood disorders.

Do not smoke

Research shows that smoking can promote mental decline.
